We are a society of physicians and dentists of Japanese heritage that was established in 1973 by a small group of Japanese physicians in New York City. Initially, networking and social gathering were the main purposes of the society, but as we expanded over the years, we began to emphasize community service. First such effort was the scholarship program to aid deserving medical students and trainees so that they would become successful medical and social leaders of the future.

Our student members are involved in many outstanding projects both here and abroad. Student members enjoy mentorship from JMSA members in various medical fields, helping to prepare for their future careers. The JMSA also awards a number of scholarships each year.
JMSA's 40th Annual Spring Dinner, held on May 12, 2012, was a tremendous success, with well over 200 people attending! The night began with a cocktail reception, followed by a fabulous dinner, during which we enjoyed a beautiful performance by pianist Ms. Mayumi Sakamoto. JMSA members gave a presentation on our Japan Disaster Relief Efforts, and scholarships were given out to JMSA scholarship recepients. During the dinner, a slide show paying tribute to the founders of JMSA was also shown. The night concluded with an amazing performance by Jazz pianist Ms. Yuko Okamoto and her band. Proceeds from the annual dinner will go to JMSA's Japan Relief Fund.
