Hideyo Noguchi Memorial

Posted in Latest

JMSA is commemorating Dr. Hideyo Noguchi's passing on 5/21/1928. He was a prominent microbiologist who was born in Fukushima and discovered the spirochete that causes syphilis. As many of us know, he suffered a burn to his left hand at the age of one that left it severely damaged. He is admired because of his ability to overcome this handicap and to rise to prominence in his field. He passed away in Ghana from yellow fever which he was studying at that time.  He spent most of time in USA at the Rockefeller University where he performed his most famous studies. His memorial is located at the Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx.

Please join us for a get-together dinner for medical students, residents, and fellows on Saturday, March 19, at 5:30PM!  It will be held at dieci, a Japanese Italian restaurant in NYC.

This will be a great opportunity for members-in-training to get to know each other and to learn more about JMSA. You can also learn ways to get more involved with the organization and with the Japanese community.  Other training members will be present, as well as attendings from the JMSA Board, including Dr. Yanagisawa.
