On May 31st, JMSA and the New York Hideyo Noguchi Memorial Society (HNMS) welcomed Governor Uchibori of Fukushima for his second visit to Noguchi grave following his last visit in 2016. Koji Abe, Deputy Chief of Mission, Consulate General of Japan in New York, Sunichi Homma, MD the Margaret Milliken Hatch Professor at Columbia University and President of HNMS, Robert T. Yanagisawa, MD, Professor of Medicine at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and President of JMSA joined Governor Uchibori in floral tribute. JMSA restored Dr. Noguchi’s grave in 2008 and established HNMS in 2013. HNMS scholarship will support young scientists who uphold the principle that guided Dr. Hideo Noguchi- “Through devotion to science, he lived and died for humanity.”
Representatives from Asia Society, Fukushima Kenjinkai, Japan Society, JMSA, Lions Club, Rotary Club, September 11th Family Association and the Woodlawn Cemetery joined the tribute to Dr. Noguchi’s legacy. They are key partners in JMSA’s 9/11 to 3/11 outreach program following 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. JMSA and 9/11 Family will continue its 7th outreach this July.
